Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said data from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his flight.
